Teresa Tomeo’s Latest Book, Italy’s Shrines and Wonders, Highlights Must-See Places to Encounter the World’s Newest Saints, their Spirituality, and Much More
IRONDALE, Alabama, September 3, 2025 — Few canonizations have drawn as much attention as that of Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, known as “God’s Influencer,” and Pier Giorgio Frassati, patron saint of youth, athletes, and friendship, to be held on September 7, 2025. In her new book Italy’s Shrines and Wonders, bestselling author, media personality, and Italy aficionado Teresa Tomeo shares some of the must-see places in their home regions of Assisi and Turin that pilgrims won’t want to miss.
“Young people need to see and hear about great witnesses of the faith and to be reminded of so many saints, even their age, such as Blessed Carlo Acutis or Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, who always looked to Jesus. They loved life, they had fun, but at the end of the day they had their priorities straight,” reflected Tomeo.
Tomeo provides tips for visiting the church of St. Mary Major in Assisi, where Carlo’s body lies on display; the Cathedral of San Rufino, where the relic of his heart is venerated; nearby sites of Eucharistic miracles; and other holy places that reflect Carlo’s devotion.
She also includes details about the Cathedral of Turin, where the famous Shroud is kept. “Many faithful flock to Turin to venerate the tomb of Pier Giorgio Frassati—who is incorrupt—and known as the ‘saint for the youth of the third millennium,’” Tomeo explained. “Pope St. John Paul II called him the ‘boy of the eight beatitudes.’”
Drawing from her experiences of more than sixty trips to her motherland, and from the many travel-coaching sessions she has given through her company, T’s Italy, Tomeo offers advice, vibrant full-color photos, and breathtaking art as a true daughter of Italy and half-time Italy resident.
Italy’s Shrines and Wonders features magnificent churches and stunning hilltop chapels filled with Renaissance masterpieces, along with great restaurants, shopping, and general exploring tips. Tomeo guides you to the tombs and relics of the most beloved saints and introduces you to the lesser-known, whose miraculous and inspiring stories will lift your mind and heart to Heaven. Tomeo also hosted a Saints in Italy EWTN Learn video series, which currently has nearly 7,000 participants across the nation.
